Lifestyle Drinks Photography for Brands – Why Real Photography Beats AI
Product Photography & Motion for Drinks Brands: Celsius UK Launch
I’m a still life and drinks photographer specialising in product photography and slow-motion tabletop video production for brands looking to create premium, campaign-ready content.
For this shoot, I worked with US drinks brand Celsius to create a series of lifestyle-led images alongside high-end studio product photography to support the launch of their new cans in the UK. The project combined still life product photography with model-led lifestyle imagery, alongside additional creative slow-motion video content designed for social, digital and advertising use.
In a time where AI-generated imagery is becoming increasingly common, this project focused on creating real, tangible visuals. Shooting the campaign in-camera allowed us to maintain full creative control over lighting, texture and movement, resulting in imagery that feels authentic and grounded in reality—something that can’t be replicated artificially.
Concept & Visual Direction
Working as lead photographer, I developed the creative concept closely with the stylist. The core idea was premium energy meets real lifestyle — striking a balance between high-end advertising visuals and authentic, relatable moments.
The lighting approach focused on a shaped daylight look, creating controlled, hyper-real imagery that still feels natural. By carefully sculpting light across the cans, glass, and environment, we were able to emphasise texture, colour and condensation in a way that elevates the product while maintaining a believable lifestyle setting. This style of lighting is central to my work as a product photographer, helping brands achieve polished, campaign-ready visuals without losing a sense of realism.
Although AI-generated imagery is becoming more common in commercial campaigns, we decided to shoot everything in-camera, with the exception of the sky background which was added in post. Drinks photography in particular relies heavily on subtle details — real liquid movement, genuine condensation, accurate reflections, and believable interactions between the product and its environment. These small visual cues are what make an image feel convincing to the viewer.
Shooting the campaign for real also allowed us to maintain full creative control over every element on set, from lighting and styling. Rather than approximating realism, we were able to capture it directly — resulting in imagery that feels tactile, dynamic and grounded in the real world.
For a brand launching into a new market, that sense of authenticity was important. The goal wasn’t just to create polished visuals, but to produce imagery that feels credible, energetic and rooted in real moments.
Lifestyle Product Photography for Drinks Brands
The lifestyle imagery was shot across various sporting environments, reflecting the active lifestyle associated with the Celsius brand. Shooting in sport settings allowed the drink to exist naturally within moments of movement and recovery, helping the images feel authentic while maintaining a premium advertising aesthetic.
Much of the shoot focused on can-in-hand lifestyle photography, a common approach in drinks and beverage photography that places the product directly within the user’s experience. Capturing the drink being held, opened, or enjoyed during natural moments helps create relatable imagery that works well across social media, digital campaigns and advertising.
Alongside the lifestyle scenes, we also produced a series of studio still life product images to highlight the design and details of the cans. Combining lifestyle product photography with controlled studio drinks photography gives brands a flexible set of campaign assets for use across web, social and marketing materials.
Close collaboration with the stylist and model agency ensured consistency across wardrobe, casting and overall visual tone — an important factor when producing high-end commercial photography for drinks brands.
Still Life Product Photography & Tabletop Shots
Alongside the lifestyle imagery, the shoot also included a series of still life product photography setups. The isolated can shots were photographed on plinths using clean, controlled lighting to create bright, premium hero images designed for advertising, web and campaign use.
Working closely with the stylist, we introduced real elements such as carefully applied condensation and subtle surface texture to bring the drinks to life on set. Real condensation on beverage cans is an important detail in drinks photography, helping communicate coldness, refreshment and energy in a way that feels believable and tactile. Capturing these elements in-camera allows the light to interact naturally with the droplets and metallic surfaces of the cans, creating a level of realism that is difficult to replicate artificially.
Subtle nods to the drink’s ingredients were also introduced through colour and styling, adding small visual cues that support the flavour profiles while keeping the focus firmly on the product itself. These styling choices help the images feel fresh, vibrant and energetic — qualities that are central to successful beverage product photography.
If you follow my social channels, you’ll also see some behind-the-scenes moments from the shoot, showing how the condensation, lighting and tabletop setups were created on set. Sharing this process gives a glimpse into the craft behind commercial still life photography and how real physical elements contribute to the final imagery.
