Benecol product & food photography

Large food and drinks brands require still life photography often used for national advertising campaigns, with imagery used on social media as well as in print for publications and billboards. I worked with my favourite food stylist, Lauren Becker, on a recent shoot for Benecol, introducing their new Greek-style yoghurt range. Working to quite a detailed brief, we created a few simple sets which could then be interchanged for various platforms and to satisfy multiple themes used throughout the campaign.

One of the benefits of working with an experienced marketing and advertising team is being provided with a full descriptive brief including dimensions, sketches and notes providing a guideline on how the final shots should look. In addition to this, we were given some suggestions on backgrounds and information regarding where text or copy would be overlaid, so as to plan the product and light positioning. We mainly used old wooden surfaces which fit in nicely with the theme, teaming with basic breakfast place settings like bowls and cutlery. These, along with some creatively placed ingredients all help bring the images to life.

Several lighting and focus techniques were composited so that the tops of the yoghurts remained silky and luxurious, whilst still maintaining a sharpness in the labels and surrounding ingredients. I used some flash techniques to convey action in other shots, including falling granola and a hand dipping a spoon into the pot.
